https://www.facebook.com/events/515187818554440/EVS volunteers invite everybody to take part in a bike tour through Aukštaitija National Park to explore its most beautiful places!
SCHEDULE:
Saturday, 3rd August 2013:
8:00 - Bike Trip to the South (for advanced cyclists)
11:00 - Palūšė Tour
14:00 - Main Bike Trip
Sunday, 4th August 2013:
10:00 - Bike Trip to the North (for advanced cyclists)
On Saturday morning at 8:00 experienced and trained bikers can join Daniele, a volunteer from Italy, on a trip from the train station in Ignalina to the southern part of the park, passing by ancient watermill and trees, Lygumai View Tower and Nalšia Museum. It's a 54 km route going on asphalt and gravel roads with some hurdles, and we will ride apace.
Meanwhile, everybody else can meet Blagovesta, a volunteer from Bulgaria, at 10:30 at Ignalina's Train Station. She will lead you by bike to the park's Visitor Centre in Palūšė (5 km far), where a tour by feet will start at 11:00. She will show you Palūšė, its wooden church and burial mound, and the Nature Trail (3,5 km).
The main bike tour for everyone will begin after lunch, at 14:00; we will pass by old oaks, Medžiukalnio Spring, Ginučiai Watermill (in which museum you can take a guided tour for 4 Lt, or just enjoy a swim in its waters), Šiliniškes View Tower, Ladakalnis Hill and Salos II ethnographic village. The trip will be around 38 km and 6 hours long, through asphalt and some forest and gravel roads, on which we may find a few obstacles.
On Sunday, advanced cyclists can join Daniele again at 10:00 at the Visitor Centre in Palūšė, for a longer and harder loop reaching the northen park of the park, and passing by most of the remaining points of interest of the park: ethnographic villages, watermills, springs, ancient trees and the Beekeeping Museum. It's a 90 km long route, with many different kinds of roads and obstacles and it will take the whole day, ending in the evening at Ignalina's train station.
To other people staying in the park on Sunday but not joining the harder bike tour we can suggest a trip on its waters. For info about kayak, canoe and boat rentals in Palūšė:
